Abstract
The principle of putting the “book inside the quiz,” promoted by the STACK community , brings explanations, examples and assessed practice into a continuous learning experience. This talk presents CTM Assessment as a complementary, lightweight route towards this goal, particularly for teachers and institutions with limited access to dedicated hosting or technical support.
CTM Assessment combines mathematical questions, Python exercises, JSXGraph diagrams and optional AI feedback within course websites. Materials are authored using Quarto, a publishing tool that brings text, mathematical notation and code together in a single document. Python executes in the student’s browser, allowing mathematical checks and programming activities to run without a dedicated computation server. The resulting pages can be published using ordinary static web hosting.
Following an overview of the system, the talk focuses on the role of JSXGraph. Examples show how a geometric diagram can accompany a calculation with a checked numerical answer, and how visual objects can provide the starting point for written responses and feedback on mathematical vocabulary. We demonstrate how teachers can place JSXGraph boards alongside tasks, response fields and course explanations, then adapt these components to different learning goals.
Particular attention is given to connecting visual information with assessment and AI assistance. Teachers define explicit checking criteria and select the diagram information and course context supplied to the feedback module. Deterministic checks provide reproducible results, while AI offers configurable guidance, from questions and hints to worked explanations. The emphasis is on practical authoring and reuse: making JSXGraph part of an accessible environment where students can read, explore, attempt a task and receive feedback within the same course page.
